Aurrigo International has expanded its presence in the U.S. by opening a new facility at Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky International Airport (CVG). Situated within the Delta Cargo building at the airport, this site will serve as the hub for deploying Aurrigo’s Auto-DollyTug. This advanced autonomous vehicle is set to revolutionize baggage handling operations at CVG.
Innovative Electric and Autonomous Technology
The Auto-DollyTug is a cutting-edge, fully electric, autonomous vehicle that merges the functions of a baggage tractor and an airport dolly. It offers increased flexibility and space efficiency by combining both functions into one streamlined vehicle. Unlike traditional setups, which typically involve a tug pulling several dollies, the Auto-DollyTug can tow up to four trailers, carrying a total of five unit load devices (ULDs). This design results in a 30% improvement in cargo capacity compared to conventional tug systems of the same length.
One of the standout features of the Auto-DollyTug is its integration of robotic arms that enable the vehicle to autonomously load and unload ULDs. This unique capability allows for fully automated baggage handling, reducing the need for manual labor. The project at CVG has entered its initial phase of setup and mapping, with full operations scheduled to commence soon. Aurrigo has highlighted the significant benefits the Auto-DollyTug brings to its clients, including cost savings, enhanced operational efficiency, and up to 60% carbon emission reduction compared to diesel-powered tugs.
Strengthening Aurrigo’s US Footprint
To support this venture, Aurrigo has hired its first autonomous vehicle safety operator in the U.S., Daniel Garcia Jr. He will soon be joined by additional staff, including specialists in vehicle maintenance and support.
“This is a pivotal moment for us in the U.S. market, which is crucial to our global expansion strategy,” said Professor David Keene, CEO of Aurrigo International. “The agreement to deploy our Auto-DollyTug at CVG earlier this year has led to the establishment of this dedicated facility and team. It enables us to oversee the deployment more effectively and positions us well for further growth in the U.S.”
Keene added that many U.S. airports are eager to adopt innovative technologies to increase operational capacity and improve passenger experience. He expressed optimism that CVG will be the first of many airports in the U.S. to integrate Aurrigo’s autonomous solutions, noting that this expansion also comes as the U.S. celebrates Labor Day, creating new job opportunities in the process.
