Hyundai Motor and Škoda collaborate

Hyundai Motor Company and Škoda Group have recently signed a significant Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to collaborate on developing a hydrogen mobility ecosystem. The agreement, formalized at the Korea-Czech Republic Business Summit held in Prague, marks a promising step towards integrating hydrogen technologies into sustainable transportation.

This MOU signifies the commitment of both companies to explore and implement hydrogen-based fuel systems in various mobility projects. The partnership will focus on multiple aspects of hydrogen mobility, including the adoption of fuel cell systems and energy-efficient solutions in transportation. Moreover, the agreement goes beyond mobility, allowing Hyundai and Škoda to assess and explore hydrogen’s broader ecosystem, including its value chain and potential applications in areas beyond transportation.

Both Hyundai and Škoda recognize hydrogen as a critical component in building a sustainable future. They share a vision where hydrogen-powered systems will not only revolutionize the mobility sector but also contribute to a cleaner, more eco-friendly society. This collaboration will allow the two companies to explore opportunities that could accelerate the integration of hydrogen technologies into various industries and regions, starting with mobility.

One of the key aspects of this agreement is the potential for Hyundai to share its advanced hydrogen fuel cell technology with Škoda Group. Hyundai has established itself as a pioneer in the hydrogen industry, developing cutting-edge fuel cell systems under its hydrogen value chain brand, HTWO. The HTWO brand encompasses Hyundai’s efforts to promote the hydrogen economy, with a particular focus on every stage of the value chain, from production to distribution.

By collaborating with Škoda, Hyundai will contribute its hydrogen expertise to help accelerate eco-friendly transportation solutions, especially in markets where Škoda Group operates, including the Czech Republic. This exchange of technology is expected to enhance Škoda’s existing mobility products, positioning both companies as leaders in hydrogen adoption.

The MOU also includes plans to conduct feasibility studies on the application of Hyundai’s fuel cell systems across a variety of industries. These studies will assess how hydrogen technologies can be used beyond the mobility sector, providing sustainable energy solutions for diverse uses such as industrial applications, logistics, and even power generation.

Ken Ramírez, Executive Vice President and Head of Global Commercial Vehicle and Hydrogen Business at Hyundai Motor Company, emphasized the importance of this partnership. He stated, “Our collaboration with Škoda Group aims to speed up the adoption of hydrogen technology, which will aid in advancing carbon neutrality across global markets, particularly in the Czech Republic. By leveraging our combined strengths, we intend to lead the rapidly growing hydrogen market through innovation and synergies between our technologies and Škoda Group’s mobility projects.”

Petr Novotný, CEO of Škoda Group, echoed this sentiment. He highlighted the role that hydrogen and other energy-efficient solutions will play in transforming the future of transportation. Novotný remarked, “Through this collaboration, we aim to extend the impact of hydrogen technologies beyond national borders. By working together, we can introduce innovative, sustainable solutions that benefit not just local markets, but the global mobility ecosystem. Our partnership with Hyundai will enable us to bring cleaner, more energy-efficient mobility solutions to areas where they are most needed.
