Pony.ai Accelerates Production of Gen-7

Pony AI Inc., a leading name in autonomous mobility, is stepping up its efforts to scale production of its Gen-7 Robotaxi while expanding commercial operations worldwide. In its recently announced unaudited Q2 2025 results, the company reported impressive revenue gains alongside notable operational milestones.

Since beginning mass production earlier this year, Pony AI has already delivered more than 200 Gen-7 Robotaxi units and remains on pace to hit its goal of 1,000 vehicles by the close of 2025. The fleet expansion, combined with its leadership in fully driverless operations across China’s most competitive urban markets, underscores the company’s ambition to redefine urban transportation through advanced autonomous technology.

Financial Momentum in Q2 2025

For the quarter ending June 30, 2025, Pony AI posted revenues of $21.5 million—up 75.9% from $12.2 million in the same period last year. This jump was largely fueled by a 157.8% surge in Robotaxi service revenue to $1.5 million, along with an extraordinary 901.8% increase in licensing and application revenue, reaching $10.4 million.

Robotruck services saw a modest 9.9% decline to $9.5 million, reflecting a strategic shift toward higher-margin opportunities. The company’s gross profit reached $3.5 million, translating to a 16.1% gross margin—a marked improvement from a slight gross loss a year earlier.

Despite the revenue boost, operating expenses rose significantly—up 75.1% to $64.7 million—driven by heavier investments in Gen-7 production and R&D. Research and development expenses increased 69% to $49 million, while selling, general, and administrative costs jumped 97.3% to $15.7 million. This spending contributed to a net loss of $53.3 million, compared with a $30.9 million loss in Q2 2024. On a non-GAAP basis, net loss stood at $46.1 million, after adjustments for share-based compensation.

Expanding Driverless Services

Pony AI has firmly cemented its position in the Robotaxi sector, now operating fully driverless services at scale. In Q2, the company launched commercial driverless rides in Shanghai’s Pudong New Area and extended 24/7 service availability in select areas of Guangzhou and Shenzhen.

Its autonomous fleet has logged over 2 million kilometers in China’s tier-one cities, proving its reliability in dense, complex traffic environments. Operational efficiency has also improved, with reductions in remote assistance and insurance costs. Pony AI is targeting an ambitious 1:30 ratio of remote assistants to vehicles by the end of 2025.

Pushing into Global Markets

Beyond China, Pony AI is preparing for late-2025 supervised Robotaxi trials in Dubai in partnership with the Roads and Transport Authority. In South Korea, the company has secured nationwide permits for challenging areas, including Seoul’s Gangnam district. In Europe, road testing is underway in Luxembourg’s Lenningen region through a collaboration with Emile Weber.

Technology and Partnerships Driving Growth

At the core of Pony AI’s innovation is its proprietary PonyWorld autonomous driving stack, designed to perform in varied and extreme conditions, including typhoons. The company’s Gen-7 Robotaxi models—developed with Guangzhou Automobile Group and Beijing Automotive Industry Corporation—serve as the backbone of its large-scale deployment strategy.

At the 2025 World Artificial Intelligence Conference in Shanghai, Pony AI stood out as the only provider offering fully driverless, on-demand ride-hailing, further cementing its edge in the global race toward autonomous mobility.
