Aptiv Launches Next-Gen ADAS Radars

Aptiv PLC has introduced its eighth-generation radar technology, marking a major leap in Advanced Driver-Assistance Systems (ADAS) performance and environmental perception. This next-generation radar system sets new standards in range, resolution, and object detection—bringing smarter, safer, and more capable automation to modern vehicles. Designed for both driving and parking scenarios, Aptiv’s Gen 8 radar broadens the horizons of vehicle autonomy and intelligent mobility.

Redefining the Sensing Frontier

At the heart of the Gen 8 platform lies Aptiv’s proprietary antenna and silicon design, engineered to deliver exceptional sensing precision. This new radar family is built to support AI- and machine learning-driven ADAS features, enabling confident, hands-free driving even in adverse conditions. The system’s front-facing and corner radar units work together to interpret complex surroundings, balancing top-tier performance with cost efficiency—an essential factor for widespread adoption across vehicle classes.

Aptiv has also extended this technology to its PULSE Sensor, an innovative solution that fuses radar and camera data for full 360-degree situational awareness. The compact PULSE system replaces up to four traditional ultrasonic sensors, offering superior accuracy, simplified architecture, and lower system costs. This versatility makes it suitable not only for vehicles but also for drones and industrial robotics, where high-precision perception is equally critical.

Driving the Next Wave of Intelligent Mobility

“Aptiv pioneered radar technology in production vehicles more than two decades ago, and today, we’re once again setting the pace,” said Javed Khan, Executive Vice President and President of Software, Advanced Safety and User Experience at Aptiv. “Our Gen 8 Radars mark a major step forward toward intelligent, software-defined vehicles—delivering all-weather reliability, 4D perception, and deep environmental awareness.”

Building on more than 25 years of radar innovation, Aptiv’s Gen 8 architecture seamlessly integrates proprietary hardware and software to enable complex driving functions, including Navigation on Autopilot (NOA) and automated parking in dynamic, real-world environments.

Enhanced Core Capabilities

The forward radar in the Gen 8 lineup can detect objects at distances beyond 300 meters, providing ultra-fine 4D angular resolution. It delivers a 30% improvement in overall performance while doubling the vertical field of view compared to its predecessor. Meanwhile, the dual-mode corner radar enhances both vertical and horizontal resolution—boosting discrimination accuracy by 25% and improving close-range detection essential for automatic emergency braking (AEB), object avoidance, and precision parking maneuvers.

Built for Real-World Reliability

The Gen 8 radar platform introduces a fundamental upgrade in detection intelligence, doubling the channel count to improve object classification and environmental mapping. It can distinguish between drivable and non-drivable surfaces using radar-only data, generate real-time lane and obstacle maps, and maintain low-error target tracking even in low-signal or high-noise environments.

By feeding richer, real-time sensor data into AI-driven perception systems, Aptiv’s Gen 8 radars allow vehicles to interpret, learn, and respond with unprecedented accuracy. This technology represents a significant stride toward a future of autonomous mobility—where vehicles can think, decide, and act with human-like awareness, ensuring safer and more efficient transportation for all.
