Lucid Group, the innovative electric vehicle manufacturer known for blending luxury with cutting-edge technology, has announced a significant software update to its DreamDrive® Pro advanced driver assistance system (ADAS). This over-the-air (OTA) update introduces two highly anticipated features: Hands-Free Drive Assist and Hands-Free Lane Change Assist, bringing Lucid vehicles one step closer to semi-autonomous driving.
Starting July 30, Lucid Air owners equipped with the DreamDrive Pro system will be the first to receive the new capabilities. Owners of the upcoming Lucid Gravity SUV can expect access to the same features later this year.
Redefining the Driving Experience
The new features enable hands-free driving on compatible divided highways, giving drivers the ability to navigate long stretches of road with minimal physical input. The Hands-Free Lane Change Assist function allows users to change lanes effortlessly by simply activating the turn signal—no need to grip the wheel.
Lucid says these enhancements are part of a broader vision to redefine what’s possible in the EV space. “The addition of these features to Lucid’s DreamDrive Pro offers a glimpse into the future that Lucid is building with the impressive capabilities of our software-defined vehicles,” said Kai Stepper, Vice President of ADAS and Autonomous Driving at Lucid. He credited the company’s robust in-house software and powerful sensor array for enabling these advanced capabilities.
Built on a Sophisticated Tech Stack
DreamDrive Pro is not a one-size-fits-all feature—it’s a premium option that reflects Lucid’s commitment to building a smarter, safer, and more seamless driving experience. The system is powered by a comprehensive suite of 32 sensors, including LiDAR, radar, visible-light and surround-view cameras, and ultrasonic sensors. This hardware allows the car to develop a rich, 360-degree understanding of its environment.
Crucially, this is paired with Lucid’s custom-developed software stack, which processes massive volumes of data in real-time to make intelligent driving decisions. The result is a hands-free system that aims to strike a balance between driver convenience and road safety.
The Road Ahead
While these updates are impressive, Lucid views them as just the beginning. With OTA updates as a cornerstone of its software-first approach, the company plans to continue expanding the capabilities of DreamDrive Pro over time.
As competition heats up in the premium EV market, Lucid’s latest move positions it alongside industry leaders offering advanced ADAS features. Unlike many competitors, however, Lucid’s vertically integrated development—from software to sensors to final assembly—gives it a unique edge in innovation.
