HERE Technologies has officially announced a strategic collaboration with Firefly, the latest electric vehicle (EV) sub-brand from Chinese automaker Nio. This partnership will see HERE providing Firefly with its high-quality mapping data and advanced location-based services, aimed at elevating the performance of the EV’s intelligent systems, including its advanced driver assistance capabilities.
The alliance is centered on improving key aspects of Firefly’s vehicle lineup—particularly safety, efficiency, and the overall driving experience. By integrating HERE’s automotive-grade map data and services, Firefly aims to deliver a seamless and intelligent mobility solution, tailored especially for urban environments.
Firefly was introduced by Nio as an accessible yet premium EV offering designed to appeal to a broader audience, particularly in Europe. The brand places a strong emphasis on smart connectivity, advanced safety features, and urban mobility. With the inclusion of HERE’s location intelligence, Firefly is positioning itself as a serious contender in the global EV market.
A key element of this collaboration involves Firefly’s adoption of HERE’s speed limit data. This will allow Firefly vehicles to continuously update and display the most current speed limit information, an essential requirement for compliance with the European Union’s Intelligent Speed Assistance (ISA) regulation. The integration will not only improve safety but also help meet strict EU regulatory standards for connected vehicles.
Moreover, through HERE’s partnership with Telenav, Firefly EVs will feature a suite of location-based services designed to enhance in-car navigation and user experience. This includes real-time traffic updates and EV-specific routing, ensuring that drivers receive optimized navigation based on live conditions and vehicle range. These features are critical to reducing driver stress, optimizing travel times, and supporting eco-friendly driving habits.
Chris Chen, Vice President of Global Business Development at Nio, emphasized the importance of finding the right partner for Firefly’s European launch. “To bring Firefly to Europe, we needed to collaborate with a partner who understands the complexities of global mobility. HERE is a trusted partner, providing us with the high-quality, automotive-grade location technology required to meet international safety and regulatory standards,” Chen said. “With HERE’s expertise, we can ensure that Firefly drivers experience the same seamless and intelligent mobility solutions, no matter where they are.”
Deon Newman, Senior Vice President and General Manager for Asia Pacific at HERE Technologies, echoed Chen’s sentiment. “HERE is proud to support Nio in expanding its ecosystem with Firefly. As Chinese EV brands scale their global presence, HERE is committed to equipping them with AI-powered location intelligence solutions that meet global automotive standards,” Newman noted. “This partnership with Nio highlights our dedication to supporting Chinese automakers as they bring innovative driving experiences to international markets.”
This collaboration between Nio and HERE Technologies signals a significant step forward in the evolution of smart EVs, combining cutting-edge location services with next-generation automotive design to create a truly connected and intelligent driving future.
