Nissan Motor has entered into definitive agreements with UK-based AI company Wayve to collaborate on integrating Wayve’s artificial intelligence technology into Nissan’s next-generation ProPilot advanced driver-assistance systems (ADAS). The partnership marks a major step in Nissan’s strategy to evolve ProPilot into a more capable, intelligent, and scalable driving assistance platform across a wide range of vehicles.
Through this collaboration, Nissan will combine its established ADAS expertise with Wayve’s embodied AI software, enabling more advanced driving capabilities, including point-to-point driving assistance. Wayve’s technology is designed to learn from real-world driving scenarios, allowing vehicles to adapt to complex and diverse environments rather than relying solely on rule-based programming.
Nissan first introduced ProPilot in 2016, offering single-lane highway driving assistance to support drivers during long-distance travel. The system was further enhanced in 2019 with the launch of ProPilot 2.0, which added multi-lane support and hands-off driving in certain conditions. Since then, ProPilot features have been deployed across multiple Nissan models, tailored to meet a wide variety of customer needs and regional requirements.
Building on this foundation, Nissan is now developing a next-generation version of ProPilot that integrates Wayve’s embodied AI technology. In September 2025, the automaker showcased a prototype vehicle equipped with Wayve AI Driver, seamlessly combined with Nissan’s proprietary Ground Truth Perception technology. This setup leverages next-generation lidar sensors to improve environmental understanding and driving precision, demonstrating the potential of AI-driven driver assistance in real-world scenarios.
Under the agreement, Wayve AI Driver will be integrated into the next-generation ProPilot series with the goal of deploying the technology in mass-produced vehicles. Nissan plans to introduce the first model featuring this new ProPilot system in Japan during fiscal year 2027, with additional global markets, including North America, expected to follow. Notably, Nissan will become the first automaker to deploy Wayve’s AI technology at scale across multiple vehicle segments.
By rolling out the system in high-volume production vehicles, Nissan and Wayve aim to gather data from a broad range of driving environments and conditions. This real-world learning approach will allow continuous refinement of the system over time, strengthening Nissan’s long-term competitiveness in intelligent driving and autonomous technology.

He emphasized that combining Nissan’s engineering expertise with Wayve’s advanced AI capabilities will help deliver safer, more intuitive, and more comfortable driving experiences for customers worldwide, while accelerating the transition toward intelligent mobility.
Wayve co-founder and CEO Alex Kendall highlighted Nissan’s leadership in bringing embodied AI closer to mass-market adoption. He noted that the collaboration will help make next-generation intelligent driving technology more accessible globally, combining Wayve’s fast-evolving AI with Nissan’s manufacturing scale and global reach to accelerate innovation in safe and enjoyable autonomous mobility.
