Tusimple Unveils Advanced Autonomous Controller for Adas and L4 Autonomy

TuSimple, an autonomous driving technology company, has launched the TuSimple Domain Controller (TDC), a central compute unit designed to be used as the central computational unit for autonomous trucks. The TDC is a single-box, central computing platform that incorporates sensor inputs, high-performance computing, an integrated vehicle control unit, and autonomous software to enable advanced autonomous driving solutions.
Market Need for a Single-Box Central Compute Platform

TuSimple’s TDC aims to meet a market need for a single-box central compute platform that is ideal for advanced commercial mobility.  The TDC also enables different sensor configurations and TuSimple application software to offer several autonomous capabilities, including next-generation L2+ and conditional L3 ADAS solutions for commercial vehicles.

Improving Road Safety and Fuel Utilization

The TDC is designed to improve road safety and fuel utilization by providing highly customizable, low-cost hardware and software modules that fuse together different sensor modalities. The TDC enables OEMs to have a holistic perception stack option that can be used as a primary or redundant computing unit to power full L4 autonomous systems. Additionally, the TDC supports next-generation ADAS projects for commercial vehicles in the Chinese market with the potential for expansion to US and European markets.

Replacing the Primary Computational System

Lei Wang, executive vice president of technology at TuSimple, said that the company expects the next generation of the TDC to replace the primary computational system to enable OEM production-ready L4 autonomous vehicles. The TDC provides OEMs with a fully integrated, low-cost, high-performance autonomy solution that can improve road safety and fuel utilization. With the TDC, TuSimple aims to meet the market need for a single-box central computing platform that is ideal for advanced commercial mobility.

In conclusion, the TuSimple Domain Controller is a significant development in the field of autonomous driving technology. The TDC supports different sensor configurations and TuSimple application software to offer several autonomous capabilities, including next-generation L2+ and conditional L3 ADAS solutions for commercial vehicles.

With the TDC, TuSimple aims to improve road safety and fuel utilization by providing highly customizable, low-cost hardware and software modules that fuse together different sensor modalities.
