Uber Technologies, Inc. and May Mobility, Inc. have entered into a long-term strategic partnership aimed at expanding the presence of autonomous vehicles (AVs) in the U.S. ride-hailing market. The agreement is expected to bring thousands of autonomous rides to the Uber platform over the next several years, marking a major step forward in the deployment of self-driving technology for public transportation.
May Mobility, a Michigan-based AV company known for its cutting-edge technology, will integrate its autonomous fleet into Uber’s ride-hailing app, starting with an initial rollout in Arlington, Texas. The first rides are slated to be available to Uber users by the end of 2025. This partnership represents a significant milestone in both companies’ efforts to accelerate the adoption of AVs at scale.
The vehicles involved in the launch will be American-made, hybrid-electric Toyota Sienna Autono-MaaS models. Each will be outfitted with May Mobility’s proprietary Multi-Policy Decision Making (MPDM) system—an advanced AI-based decision-making technology designed to improve the safety and performance of AVs in complex driving environments. The initial phase of deployment will feature trained safety operators behind the wheel to monitor operations, with the goal of transitioning to fully driverless service as the technology matures.
Uber riders in Arlington will soon be able to select a May Mobility autonomous vehicle for eligible trips directly through the Uber app. This seamless integration is designed to introduce AV technology to users in a familiar and trusted way while supporting Uber’s broader mission to build a future of safe, efficient, and sustainable transportation.
The collaboration underscores Uber’s commitment to partnering with leading autonomous vehicle developers to bring this next-generation mobility solution to the masses. “We are thrilled to be partnering with May Mobility to continue scaling the availability of autonomous vehicles across the United States,” said an Uber spokesperson. “By teaming up with innovative AV companies like May Mobility, we are accelerating our vision of making autonomous transportation accessible, reliable, and widely available.”
Edwin Olson, CEO and co-founder of May Mobility, expressed equal enthusiasm about the partnership. “Launching on the Uber platform is a major milestone for us and a clear indication that we’re ready to grow rapidly in key U.S. markets,” Olson said. “This partnership will allow us to bring the transformative benefits of autonomous mobility—such as increased safety, reduced emissions, and improved access—to more people across the country.”
Following the initial launch in Texas, Uber and May Mobility have plans to expand the service into additional U.S. cities starting in 2026. The companies aim to leverage their combined technological strengths and operational expertise to reshape how Americans move through urban environments.
This partnership signals a bold step toward a future where autonomous vehicles are not just a novelty, but an everyday part of how we travel.
