dSPACE Successfully Integrates RoboSense

dSPACE, a leading provider of automotive simulation and testing solutions, has entered into a technology partnership with RoboSense, a prominent developer of smart lidar systems. The collaboration aims to revolutionize the development, testing, and validation of lidar functions for Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) and autonomous driving applications. By seamlessly integrating RoboSense’s sensor models into dSPACE’s Aurelion sensor simulation solution, both companies have set out to enhance testing capabilities while reducing development costs.

Caius Seiger, the product manager for sensor simulation at dSPACE, expressed his excitement about the integration, stating that sensor models for the most commonly used RoboSense sensors are now readily available within the Aurelion platform. This integration expands the testing options and allows developers to simulate a wide range of scenarios, streamlining the development process and accelerating the validation phase.

Aurelion, the state-of-the-art sensor simulation solution from dSPACE, offers users the flexibility to operate either in the cloud or locally, enabling the generation of photo-realistic images in real time for camera simulation. Moreover, using ray tracing technology, the platform can also calculate realistic raw data for both radar and lidar simulations. This versatility allows the dSPACE solution to be effectively employed in various testing environments, including software-in-the-loop testing, hardware-in-the-loop testing, and parallel validation in the cloud.

One of the key advantages of this partnership is the integration of RoboSense’s M-Series lidar, known for being the first intelligent automotive-grade solid-state lidar to achieve mass production. With this integration, developers can now access high-quality lidar models through the Aurelion platform, generating synthetic data for perception development, testing, and validation of autonomous driving systems.

The M-Series lidar from RoboSense Utilizes Micro-Electro-Mechanical Systems (MEMS) chips and advanced 2D scanning technology, which, combined with its high-performance and reliability features, delivers top-tier perception point clouds. This significantly enhances vehicle perception capabilities, especially in complex scenarios, providing a robust foundation for building safe and efficient autonomous driving systems.

Sean Wang, senior director of product at RoboSense, expressed his enthusiasm for the partnership with dSPACE, emphasizing that it will enable them to support industry partners in deploying and utilizing lidar-equipped vehicles effectively. He also highlighted their commitment to further deepen collaboration with dSPACE, leveraging the strengths of their lidar technology products to foster the development of powerful and safe ADAS and autonomous driving systems in the automotive industry. The joint efforts of both companies are aimed at driving progress in the global automotive and autonomous driving sectors.

As the automotive industry continues its rapid evolution toward autonomous mobility, partnerships like this one between dSPACE and RoboSense play a pivotal role in advancing the development and testing of crucial technologies. By integrating RoboSense’s cutting-edge lidar capabilities into dSPACE’s Aurelion platform, developers gain access to sophisticated simulation tools that significantly accelerate the development of next-generation autonomous driving systems. This not only saves time and resources but also contributes to the overall safety and reliability of autonomous vehicles on the road.
