Accelerating AI Development for Driver Monitoring Systems

Xylon, a leading provider of IP cores, services, and solutions for adaptive SoC (System on Chip) and FPGA (Field-Programmable Gate Array) devices, has unveiled its innovative Driver Monitoring System (DMS) technology suite named ARTIEYE. This suite is strategically designed to address the diverse needs of AI designers, offering a comprehensive collection of modules that span the entire spectrum of DMS development. From road data collection to neural network optimization and full AI implementations in embedded hardware, the ARTIEYE suite aims to empower users by streamlining the complex process of developing advanced driver monitoring and in-cabin AI systems.

Drawing upon a decade of expertise in driver monitoring technology, Xylon has crafted the ARTIEYE suite to simplify the intricate task of AI system development. The suite comprises pre-verified, customizable modules that cater to various stages of development. The process commences with the creation of a remotely tracked test fleet equipped with heterogeneous sensor kits. Subsequent steps involve data acquisition in both lab and road environments, along with the establishment of AI datasets and bio-medically grounded ground truth sets. The suite seamlessly integrates diverse neural networks optimized for detecting driver drowsiness as well as visual, manual, and cognitive distractions.

One notable feature of the ARTIEYE suite is its provision of a comprehensive demo and evaluation platform built on the AMD Zynq UltraScale+ adaptive SoC. This platform enables real-time implementation of Deep Neural Network (DNN) models, facilitating efficient testing and evaluation. To enhance the testing process, Xylon has developed automated test benches, leveraging their proprietary logiRECORDER, a hardware-in-the-loop-capable datalogger.

Davor Kovačec, the founder and CEO of Xylon, expressed the significance of their extensive experience in developing solutions for driver monitoring technology, stating, “The solutions that came as a direct result of that experience helped us make ARTIEYE a comprehensive technology suite that speeds up time-to-market and saves on R&D costs by allowing developers to quickly customize and adopt the provided modules for different in-cabin applications.”

The ARTIEYE suite not only expedites the development timeline but also provides a cost-effective solution for researchers and developers, allowing them to focus on customization for specific applications. By offering a range of pre-verified modules, Xylon aims to empower developers to skip years of development and gain full control over their DMS products.

The suite’s emphasis on remote tracking, data acquisition, and the integration of diverse neural networks underscores its versatility and adaptability to real-world scenarios. Furthermore, the incorporation of the AMD Zynq UltraScale+ adaptive SoC as the demo and evaluation platform ensures a robust and scalable foundation for implementing DNN models in real-time applications.
